Kelly has been Head of Learning Development since August 2017.
With a degree in Linguistics and English literature from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and an MSc. in Applied Linguistics from University of Edinburgh, Kelly has worked in higher education in Japan, South Africa and the UK in the areas of English language curriculum development, academic support and educational research. Kelly joined Thinking Writing in 2005 and has worked on research investigating argumentative skills in undergraduates, and developing academic literacies in context. She has extended HE learning development work to various East London secondary schools. Her current interests are in the notion of retreat in higher education, postgraduate development, and the continuum between staff and student development. For the past two years she has worked with Learning Development colleagues on the Whole Programme Approach to Writing Development in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science.
